There are two areas of wear that will have bad affects on your shifting, the ball links and the shifter mount. You can address one of these problems by ordering one of the services here, or take care of the whole thing by ordering the Complete Shifter Service.
Shift Linkage Ball Link Replacement Have you ever noticed that there is a lot of slop in the
shift linkage on your motorcycle? That
it has more play than it should? Does it rattle or feel gritty? Does it
bind and make finding neutral difficult? Are you a perfectionist and just
need to take care of that last nagging issue?
This repair replaces the worn out ball links in your shift
linkage with a brand new set of high quality heavy duty ball links. These are
custom ball links with a few features to make them the LAST set you’ll need.
Zinc plated and yellow passivated,
for corrosion and salt resistance.
60,000-72,000psi Tensile Strength
Nylon 6 liners, no steel on steel contact here.
Polychlroprene seal to keep the lube in and the grit out.
Burnished ball for smooth operation and long service life.
This is the last time you will have to replace the ball
joints on your shift linkage. Why go to junk yards and look for old links which
are "good enough?" Do yourself a favor and do it the right way the first time.
With this service your shift levers will have their old ball
links pressed out and the new ball links mounted. Your adjustment nuts and
shaft will be retained.
You will need to send in your shift lever, transmission
shift arm, and linkage rod going between the original ball links. (Basically
just take out the lever mount bolt, bushing, remove the transmission lever
retention bolt, and send the whole thing in as you see in the photo.) Please send to the address below.
Ball Bearing Shifter Retrofit
Have you ever noticed that the shift lever on your
motorcycle has more play than it should? Does it move side to side?
Is it gritty or stiff in operation? Does it bind and make shifting difficult?
Are you a perfectionist and just need to take care of that last nagging
issue?
This is a retrofit that replaces the old bushing in your
shift lever with a pair of sealed ABEC-5 ball bearings. These are incredibly precise bearings with a
maximum tolerance of 0.000138” The bearings then ride on a shoulder bolt which
replaces the stock retaining bolt and threads directly into your existing foot
peg mount. Since they are sealed they
will not suffer from the elements like shielded or open bearings, their balls
being protected from water and road grime.
Bottom line? Your issue with slop is virtually eliminated
while smoothness and functionality are greatly improved.
With this service you send in your shift lever to the address below. Your shift lever will be machined and have
new bearings pressed in. Then your
retrofitted part will be shipped back to you with the new shoulder bolt. Only
the shift lever will be required to be sent in, but there is no need to try and remove the ball link as it is pressed in and swedged and you may damage it in trying. Please DO NOT send in your
transmission linkage. This service (but not the ball link replacement) is also available for the following non-V4 bikes: Honda Rebel 450. Send your shift assembly to: Skymaster Solutions Attn: Michael Eibling 2910 Acacia Street Rosamond CA 93560
The entire shifter will fit in a small flat rate USPS box, $5 and change.
