This is not an anti-lock system, it is an anti-skid device. The difference is that it will not prevent your brakes from locking up, it will reduce the chances of the wheel skidding.
It acts as a kind of shock absorber in your brake system.
DO NOT JUDGE THIS SYSTEM ONLY BY GENERAL IMPRESSION OR "FEEL."
YOU MUST TEST BEFORE / AFTER BRAKING DISTANCE TO BE SURE OF ITS EFFECTIVENESS.
It offers several benefits:
- When you panic stop, you grab those brakes for all they're worth. On a clean, dry, paved road, this is fine with most bikes. But if the road is wet or "dirty" you will likely skid and have to back off and modulate (on the rear brake, this can easily lead to what is known as a "high side" crash). This device will reduce the tendency to skid, though not preventing it as an anti-lock would. You get increased safety for little relative cost.
- The device does some continuous modulation for you, allowing you to stop faster. This effect will vary greatly between different bikes and also depends on the condition of your overall brake system.
- On bikes with rubber lines, you will likely notice a "smoother" braking feel, resulting in greater confidence. This feeling is usually not present in bikes with stainless braid lines.
- Even if you feel no difference, or even if your brakes feel "mushier" you may find that your stopping distances have decreased. This is why we ask that you test your stopping distance before and then after installation. Of course, you shouldn't test this on anything other than a clean, dry surface for safety's sake.
You can install more than one of these devices for increased effect. You can put one on each of the calipers and the master cylinder. We offer a discount for purchase of two to four units.
Here is a test report and video:
Test:
http://www.hdopenroad.com/reviews/tcb-braking-system-cost-value/How it Works:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW9PJIAsFBINo it is NOT the same as having a bubble in your lines. The chamber behind the diaphragm is not simply at atmospheric pressure. It takes a bit of force to compress it, enough that it won't adversely affect your stopping power, but will instead deliver the benefits explained above.
DO NOT USE THIS SYSTEM ON BIKES EQUIPPED WITH ANTI LOCK BRAKES
Please Note:
These have been out of stock for a while. We had a problem with some incorrect units being shipped, and haven't gotten that straightened out yet.
